“Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.”
What is it that is holy that is being given to the dogs? It is truth, as we mentioned last week. But it’s more than that: it is trust. When we turn to the government or some other entity for our security, our help, our protection, our provision, we are giving our trust to them to provide for us instead of trusting in our heavenly Patron, who is Faithful.
To give dogs and swine our trust will lead to it being trampled on. It never works.
But it is also our lives, and the body of Christ that they seek to devour. Dogs and swine may take us in for a time, but eventually, they will turn on us and destroy us because we are the smell of death to them.
Since we have been made holy and good, we are to look to our Father for protection, for provision, for all that we need. He is the ultimate patron.
